Supporting a brand through its life cycle: how we helped Birdsoup hatch and spread its wings over 10 years of working together.
We’re proud to punch to say that Birdsoup are amongst our longest-serving clients. They came to us around a decade ago with just a logo, a whole heap of personality and a mission: levelling the opportunities for people across the professional landscape.
Their focus when they started was career development for women specifically; we dubbed them ‘gendervengers’, replete with branded tote bags bearing that slogan, an arrestingly luminous website and a funny but unapologetically spiky tone. It was 2016 — it worked.
Co-founders Jo and Alison are so engaging, dynamic and such an absolute riot that we wanted to make sure that was authentically translated to the written word. Our tone of voice work and subsequent marketing support always tried to do one thing: give the audience as close to the full ‘Jo & Al experience’ as possible.
Interestingly, that changed over time. The world changed over time. Societally, post-Me Too movement, audiences seemed to become deaf to the plight of women in the workplace. That issue never went away, but Jo & Alison realised that there was unrealised potential in the workplace across the board.
In 2023, we helped deliver Birdsoup 2.0: a maturation of the brand, shown systematically in a refined colour scheme and through their tone itself; a widening of the brand’s audience, a brand new web design. When a business is founder-led, as Birdsoup is, the brand should mature with you. We want to continue to watch the evolution of Birdsoup and with any luck, we’ll be there to roll out Birdsoup 3.0 when it’s ready to fly.
